Mandalay Region

   Mandalay Division has a population density of 200 people per square kilometer, which is very high compared to Myanmar's 76 people. It is the second most densely populated area after Yangon Division, rising from 99 in 1973 to 124 in 1983.


   In the region, 65 out of 100 people live in rural areas and 35 in urban areas, the third highest after Yangon with 70% of the urban population and 36% with Kachin State. The majority of Mandalay's population is Burman, but the Mandalay metropolitan area is also home to Chinese immigrants from Yunnan. Indians also live there.
