Kalaw

 Kalaw is located in southern Shan State.  It is located about 4,297 feet above sea level.  The Union Highway passes through Kalaw.  Aungban is to the east of Kalaw and to the west is Mandalay Region.  It is like a gateway from southern Shan State to central Burma.  To the east of the town is the Kalaw River, which flows from the mountains into Inle Lake.  The history of Kalaw was only a resting place on Lara Road to Shan State during the reign of ancient Burmese kings.  During the colonial period, the British favored the city and built it to fit the city's features.
